【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusefulforfieldmeasurementoftheinfiltrationrateofsoils.Infiltrationrateshaveapplicationtosuchstudiesasliquidwastedisposal,evaluationofpotentialseptic-tankdisposalfields,leachinganddrainageefficiencies,irrigationrequirements,waterspreadingandrecharge,andcanalorreservoirleakage,amongotherapplications.Althoughtheunitsofinfiltrationrateandhydraulicconductivityofsoilsaresimilar,thereisadistinctdifferencebetweenthesetwoquantities.Theycannotbedirectlyrelatedunlessthehydraulicboundaryconditionsareknown,suchashydraulicgradientandtheextentoflateralflowofwater,orcanbereliablyestimated.Thepurposeoftheouterringistopromoteone-dimensional,verticalflowbeneaththeinnerring.Manyfactorsaffecttheinfiltrationrate,forexamplethesoilstructure,soillayering,conditionofthesoilsurface,degreeofsaturationofthesoil,chemicalandphysicalnatureofthesoilandoftheappliedliquid,headoftheappliedliquid,temperatureoftheliquid,anddiameteranddepthofembedmentofrings.Thus,testsmadeatthesamesitearenotlikelytogiveidenticalresultsandtheratemeasuredbythetestmethoddescribedinthisstandardisprimarilyforcomparativeuse.Someaspectsofthetest,suchasthelengthoftimethetestsshouldbeconductedandtheheadofliquidtobeapplied,mustdependupontheexperienceoftheuser,thepurposefortesting,andthekindofinformationthatissought.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesaprocedureforfieldmeasurementoftherateofinfiltrationofliquid(typicallywater)intosoilsusingdouble-ringinfiltrometer.1.2Soilsshouldberegardedasnaturaloccurringfineorcoarse-grainedsoilsorprocessedmaterialsormixturesofnaturalsoilsandprocessedmaterials,orotherporousmaterials,andwhicharebasicallyinsolubleandareinaccordancewithrequirementsof1.5.1.3Thistestmethodisparticularlyapplicabletorelativelyuniformfine-grainedsoils,withanabsenceofveryplastic(fat)claysandgravel-sizeparticlesandwithmoderatetolowresistancetoringpenetration.1.4Thistestmethodmaybeconductedatthegroundsurfaceoratgivendepthsinpits,andonbaresoilorwithvegetationinplace,dependingontheconditionsforwhichinfiltrationratesaredesired.However,thistestmethodcannotbeconductedwherethetestsurfaceisbelowthegroundwatertableorperchedwatertable.1.5Thistestmethodisdifficulttouseortheresultantdatamaybeunreliable,orboth,inveryperviousorimpervioussoils(soilswithahydraulicconductivitygreaterthanabout10x2212;2cm/sorlessthanabout1x00D7;10x2212;6cm/s)orindryorstiffsoilsthatmostlikelywillfracturewhentheringsareinstalled.Forsoilswithhydraulicconductivitylessthan1x00D7;10x2212;6cm/srefertoTestMethodD5093.
